The Winona Lake Sunset Pickleball Tournament will return from Friday, September 5, to Sunday, September 7. The tournament will be held at the pickleball courts by Winona Lake Limitless Park. Proceeds will help World Compassion Network, which supports disaster relief in Kosciusko County and beyond.
Tournament Director Dave Thieme called World Compassion Network a “well-thought out” organization.
Event Details and Registration
Players must register by Monday, August 25. The cost is $50 for the first event, plus $5 for each additional event. A special nine-team cash tournament for 5.0-level players costs an extra $30.
Anyone who registers by Monday, August 4, will get a free T-shirt. For $15, players can upgrade to a Dri-FIT shirt.
Tournament Format and Play
Events include senior men’s and women’s doubles for ages 50 and up, open singles, mixed doubles, and open men’s and women’s doubles.
Games will be played in a round robin format. All teams are guaranteed at least four games. Regular games are won by one point. The top four teams will move to the playoffs, where games are won by two points.
If there are more than 10 teams in a category, teams will be split into pools. The top two teams from each pool will advance to the playoffs.
If it rains, matches will move to Grace College’s Gordon Health and Wellness Center.
Food, Prizes, and Community Support
Players will enjoy snacks and food trucks will be onsite. Raffle prizes will also be available.
Dave Thieme said, “Pickleball is just so popular.” Last year’s event raised nearly $25,000 for World Compassion Network.
Impact and Future Outlook
The tournament continues to grow each year, bringing players together and helping people in need. With strong community support, the event is expected to raise more funds and draw even more participants.
