Chautaqua Park Pickleball Courts Set for Major Upgrade with New Terrace Seating—Here’s What’s Coming

Chautaqua Park Pickleball Upgrades: The City of Beatrice is moving ahead with a project to add terrace seating at the Chautaqua Park Pickleball courts on the south side of the city. The Beatrice City Council approved the project in a unanimous vote on Monday night, with construction to be handled by Lottman Excavating.

Project Funded by Community and Grant Support

Beatrice City Administrator Tobias Tempelmeyer said the seating project will be funded through a combination of local contributions and a grant.

“What we’re looking at is the Pickleball Association has agreed to contribute about $8,000 to the project, Beatrice Plus has agreed to contribute $10,000 to the project and we’re looking to use the RC/RP grant to cover the remaining $64,160 for this project,” said Tobias Tempelmeyer.

The RC/RP grant is part of a $950,000 fund awarded to Beatrice to improve recreational spaces and playgrounds throughout the city. The pickleball courts at Chautaqua Park are one of the most-used spots for local players, making it an ideal location for the upgrade.

Construction Timeline and Growing Popularity

A start date for the project has not yet been confirmed. However, Tobias Tempelmeyer shared that construction is expected to last about 45 days, with the goal of completing the work within the current fiscal year.

According to USA Pickleball, the sport finished 2024 as the fastest-growing sport in the U.S. for the fourth year in a row. The city sees this improvement as part of a broader effort to support activities that bring the community together.

The new terrace seating will make it easier for people to watch games, support friends and family, and enjoy time at the park. It also reflects Beatrice’s ongoing effort to invest in healthy recreation for residents of all ages.
