Tundra Tussle 2025: Alaska’s First DUPR-Rated Pickleball Showdown Heats Up Fairbanks

The first annual Tundra Tussle pickleball tournament is set to take place on July 19 and 20, 2025, at the Big Dipper Outdoor Arena in Fairbanks, Alaska. This pickleball event will include men’s and women’s doubles on July 19, followed by mixed doubles on July 20, across 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0+ skill levels. Registration closes at 8:00 AM EST on July 14, with a $30 entry fee.

Tournament Details and Format

The Tundra Tussle will be hosted at the Big Dipper Outdoor Arena, located at 1920 Lathrop Street in Fairbanks. It is a DUPR-rated tournament, meaning results will count toward players’ Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating. If participants don’t yet have a DUPR rating, they are required to create a free DUPR account and self-rate their playing level.

Organizers believe this helps players track their progress over time and makes it easier to sign up for future tournaments. Having a DUPR rating will help with signing up for tournaments in the future. Plus, it is a neat platform to record your matches and see your progression.

Refund Policy and Registration

The final day to cancel and request a refund is July 20 at 8:00 PM. However, due to transaction processing fees, full refunds cannot be guaranteed. Players unable to participate are advised to find a replacement who can reimburse them directly. “Worst-case scenario, we recommend you find a player to take your place and have them pay you the full amount,” the event listing mentioned.

Encouraging Participation and Growth

By combining competitive brackets with a fun, welcoming environment, the Tundra Tussle aims to grow the pickleball scene in Alaska. The event gives players from all skill levels a chance to compete, build community, and be part of a growing sport in the northernmost part of the U.S.
