Northeast Park Pickleball Grand Opening: Eight brand-new pickleball courts with lights opened at Northeast Park in Monroe, Wisconsin, on Wednesday, July 2. The grand opening included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the first evening of league play. The new facility is already drawing attention from players and community leaders.
Community Leaders Praise New Courts
Matt Skibba, Director of Culture and Recreation for Monroe Parks and Recreation, spoke about the long-term impact of the new complex.
“I think this complex will be a benefit for generations and for years to come,” said Matt Skibba.
Monroe Mayor Donna Douglas also shared her excitement about the courts.
“It just adds one more thing for Monroe. It’s another example of investing health, happiness, and well-being to our community,” said Donna Douglas.
Support from Donors and Sponsors
Funding for the project came from many donors, with total contributions between $250,000 and $300,000. Sponsors supported the courts, benches, and other features. The Colony Brands Foundation gave over $100,000 and received naming rights for the new facility.
John Baumann, President of Colony Brands Foundation, attended the ribbon cutting.
“I could get the hang of this. My next purchase just might be a set of pickleball paddles,” said John Baumann. He also admitted he had never played before.
Tournament and League Play Already Underway
The Colony Brands Foundation Pickleball Complex has already hosted a tournament. Upcoming tournaments are scheduled for July 25 and August 6.
Matt Skibba shared that league play happens on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and weekday mornings from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. during Park and Recreation hours. The courts are open to the public at all other times.
There are currently 110 members in the pickleball league, according to Matt Skibba.
Bringing Pickleball to More People
The addition of the new pickleball courts at Northeast Park helps meet the rising demand for the sport. With league play, open court times, and future tournaments planned, the Colony Brands Foundation Pickleball Complex is expected to be a hub for recreation and community connection in Monroe for years to come.
