Mitchell City Park Unveils Vibrant New Pickleball Courts—A Game-Changer for Community Fun

Mitchell City Park Pickleball Courts: The City of Mitchell has finished building new pickleball and basketball courts at Mitchell City Park. These courts were made possible through funding from the Lawrence County Community Foundation’s Vision Grant and Mitchell Heritage Grant programs. The project is meant to support community health and bring people together through sports.

The courts are now open to the public. They provide more ways for residents to stay active, especially with the rising popularity of pickleball. The city sees this project as part of its goal to improve local parks and create more spaces for fun and exercise.

Support from Grants and Local Donors

The new courts were paid for with help from multiple sources. The Mitchell Community Heritage Fund, managed by the Lawrence County Community Foundation, gave a Heritage Grant for the pickleball courts. The City of Mitchell added more funds to complete the project.

Mayor Don Caudell thanked everyone who helped bring the project to life.

“I want to express my sincere gratitude for your support in making our new basketball and pickleball courts a reality. Your commitment to enhancing our community spaces means so much, and thanks to your generosity, we now have a place where people of all ages can come together, stay active, and enjoy the games they love.”

He continued, “Seeing these courts come to life will serve as a lasting testament to your kindness and investment in our community. Whether it’s a pickup basketball game or a friendly pickleball match, these courts will bring joy to many.”

Community Support Plays a Key Role

Mayor Don Caudell also listed the many supporters of the project.

“I would especially like to thank our project donors. Our basketball court was sponsored by donations from: Lawrence County Community Foundation, Bedford Federal Savings Bank, Capstone Ministries, Old National Bank, Holmes Hardware, The Cox Family, and Ace Hardware.”

He added, “Our pickleball courts were funded by the Lawrence County Community Foundation, through ‘The Mitchell Community Heritage Grant,’ with additional funding by the City of Mitchell.”

Mayor Don Caudell closed by saying, “On behalf of the Mitchell Community, I want to thank you for believing in this project and helping make it happen. We appreciate you!”

A Growing Space for All Ages

Mitchell City Park is open every day and now offers more than just green space. It already had playgrounds and picnic spots, and now the new courts bring more excitement. Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the U.S., and these courts give people a chance to try it close to home.

The new courts offer a chance for fun, exercise, and bonding. They are expected to attract both kids and adults, helping neighbors meet and play together.
