Greater Midland Unveils Pickleball Complex, Teases Major Announcement at Free 50th Anniversary Bash

Greater Midland Pickleball Complex Launch: The Greater Midland Tennis Center will host a free Open House and Ribbon Cutting on Thursday, July 24, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. The event celebrates the center’s 50th anniversary and the grand opening of its new outdoor pickleball complex, welcoming all community members to take part.

Celebrating 50 Years and New Growth

The event includes a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4:30 p.m., free food, games, giveaways, and guided tours. The center’s leadership aims to honor its tennis legacy while embracing the rising popularity of pickleball with a new outdoor complex.

“We have such an incredible history of growing tennis in our region, and we are thrilled to be a leader in supporting pickleball for our members and the Greater Midland community. Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country, and we’re proud to be part of its momentum by expanding access and encouraging active lifestyles for all ages,” said Jeff Rekeweg, Executive Director of Greater Midland Tennis Center.

Looking Ahead With Exciting Announcements

Along with the facility unveiling, Greater Midland President and CEO Terri Johnson said an exciting announcement will be shared during the event.

“We are excited to make a special announcement during the event. Something special we have been eager to share,” said Terri Johnson. “In addition to the new pickleball complex, an additional community-supported investment will be kicking off that will be enhancing the experience for members, guests and future generations of players and position us well for the next 50 years.”

National Tournament Coming Soon

The new pickleball complex will also host a major tournament. From August 13 to 17, 2025, the Greater Midland Tennis Center will be home to the Association of Pickleball Players Great Lakes Open. This event puts Midland on the national pickleball map and highlights the center’s expanded reach.
