PB Jar Indoor Pickleball Courts: An indoor pickleball facility called The PB Jar will open soon in Sioux Falls, featuring eight courts inside a renovated warehouse at 3701 S. Western Ave. Owner Travis Thie said the center will offer top-level technology and serve a city that lacks indoor pickleball options.
Location and Design
The PB Jar is located south of the Scheels store and next to warehouse space used by the sporting goods retailer. Travis Thie, who also helped start Mapleton Golf Club, chose this central spot after 18 months of research and talks with pickleball facility owners across the country. He said,
“It’s the fastest-growing sport in the U.S., and we just don’t have the indoor pickleball facilities a town of this demographic generally has.”
The facility will have a patriotic red, white, and blue color theme. One court will be used for practice and demonstrations.
Features and Services
Every court will have cameras so players can record their games and review them to improve. There will be a pro shop selling paddles, shoes, and clothing.
While The PB Jar has applied for a beer and wine license, it will not serve full meals, only grab-and-go snacks.
Membership and Access
The plan is to open in early November, with memberships available about 60 days before. Travis Thie explained,
“It’s a hybrid model that will be both membership and open play, meaning you don’t need to be a member but will be able to book online through our reservation system.”
Members will get perks such as the ability to book courts in advance. Some memberships will even allow 24-hour access to the building.
Events and Competition
The PB Jar will host leagues, open play sessions, corporate events, and tournaments. Travis Thie added,
“We’ll have tournaments, and our plan is we’ll have a champions court that all the league play will funnel to.”
Livestreaming will be available on every court, and temporary bleachers can be set up for bigger competitions.
