Level Up Your Game: Demuth Community Center Launches Exclusive Pickleball Classes This August

Demuth Community Center Pickleball Class: A pickleball class for beginners and advanced beginners will be held every Thursday in August 2025 at Demuth Community Center in Palm Springs. Mary Barsaleau will teach the classes outdoors at the Demuth Park Pickleball courts from 7:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m., focusing on the basics of the game.

The class runs from August 7 to August 28, with four or five sessions depending on the month. Residents pay $95 for four classes, or $115 if there are five classes. Non-residents pay $102 annually for recreation membership. Drop-in classes cost $25 if space is available. Classes are limited to eight students to keep instruction focused.

Learning Pickleball Basics

Students will learn the five main rules of pickleball: the ball must stay inside the court boundaries; each side is allowed one bounce; serves must start from the baseline; serves cannot land in the no-volley zone; and games end when a player reaches 11, 15, or 21 points. The course is designed for advanced beginners looking to improve their skills.

Class Requirements and Location

Participants must have a city annual recreation membership to join, available for residents and non-residents. Classes will be held outside at the Demuth Park Pickleball courts, located at 3601 East Mesquite Avenue in Palm Springs. Mary Barsaleau, an experienced instructor, will lead the sessions to help students develop proper techniques.

Flexible Learning for Beginners

To accommodate summer schedules, beginner and advanced beginner groups will be combined into one class lasting 1.5 hours each Thursday morning. This approach allows for a fun and supportive environment for players at similar skill levels to learn together.
