$1 Million Pickleball Boom: West Baton Rouge Unveils Plans for 16 New Courts Across Parish

West Baton Rouge Pickleball Court Project: West Baton Rouge Parish will soon have 16 new pickleball courts built across the community, thanks to a $1 million project funded equally by Placid Refining Company and the West Baton Rouge Parish Council. The courts are expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the United States. Right now, West Baton Rouge has no dedicated courts. Local players often use tennis or basketball courts to play. That will change next year with this major new development.

A Shared Investment for the Community

The project is being funded with $500,000 from Placid Refining Company and $500,000 from the parish council.

“We try to support the community a lot,”

said Placid Refining Company President Rob Beadle.

“But I didn’t want to do buying copy machines or something like that. I wanted to do something a little more lasting.”

The parish council was already interested in building courts but planned to do it over several years. The offer from Placid Refining Company changed that timeline.

“Because of Placid’s awesome, fantastic donation to West Baton Rouge, we just decided to do them all in 2025,”

said West Baton Rouge Parish Council Chair Carey Denstel.

Where the Courts Will Be Located

The 16 courts will be spread across three locations in the parish:

  • Port Allen Community Center will get four courts.

  • Erwinville Recreation Center will also get four courts.

  • Alexander Park in Brusly will have eight courts.

Construction contracts will be awarded at the parish council meeting on August 28, 2025.

Why This Project Matters

Pickleball is growing quickly across the country. The Sports and Fitness Industry Association says it has been the fastest-growing sport in the U.S. since 2022.

The new courts will make it easier for residents in West Baton Rouge to play without needing to travel or use makeshift courts. Local leaders hope the project will support the health and happiness of people of all ages in the parish.
