Pickleball Classic Make-A-Wish Fundraiser: On July 14, 2025, the first-ever Pickleball Classic fundraiser took place at the Bosse pickleball courts inside the Natick Mall in Massachusetts. The event brought together 20 teams of players of all ages and skill levels and raised over $25,000 for Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
The tournament was created by Make-A-Wish board member Len Ho, chief legal officer at Opensignal, and his wife, Peggy Ho, general counsel and chief risk officer at Commonwealth Financial Network. The event helped raise awareness and funds to grant wishes for children with serious illnesses.
Fun, Family, and Community Support
The Pickleball Classic welcomed beginners, experienced players, and enthusiastic supporters. Families and friends gathered at the indoor courts to cheer on the teams. The event aimed to be more than just a competition—it was a celebration of hope, teamwork, and giving.
“The Pickleball Classic was a fun way to engage more members of the broader community in the Make-A-Wish mission, whether they were avid pickleballers, beginners looking to try a new sport, or family and friends cheering them on,” Len Ho said in a statement.
The Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island Wish Community, which keeps wish recipients and families connected after their wishes are granted, was also present at the event.
A Special Role for a Wish Recipient
One of the most heartwarming moments came from 11-year-old Chris Hohn of Milford. Chris, who lives with a progressive genetic condition, had his wish to meet retired Boston Red Sox player David Ortiz granted at Fanatics Fest in 2024.
At the tournament, Chris served as the commentator for the championship match. His mother, Emily Viti, also from Milford, competed in the event and placed third with her playing partner.
The tournament had another special guest—New England Patriots linebacker Jahlani Tavai. He attended with his family and joined in on the court, playing alongside supporters and wish families.
Supporting Summer Wishes
Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island is working to grant 120 wishes for children this summer. The Pickleball Classic was part of the group’s Summer of Wishes effort to raise funds and connect the community with its mission.
