Summit County Scores Big: Local Athletes Dominate Pickle in the Peaks Tournament, Shattering Records and Expectations

Pickle in the Peaks Tournament Winners: Summit County athletes took home multiple medals at the sixth annual Pickle in the Peaks pickleball tournament, held from Thursday, July 17, to Saturday, July 19, 2025. The event drew 145 teams and over 250 players to Summit County, highlighting the area’s growing enthusiasm for the fast-paced sport.

Pickleball Growth in Summit County

Pickleball has become one of the fastest-growing sports nationwide, with a surge in popularity following the COVID-19 pandemic. In Summit County, the game has become a community staple. The Summit County Pickleball Association hosts two tournaments each year, and local players of all ages actively take part.

Julie Worthington, the event organizer, said that this year’s tournament included a 70-plus age division for the first time. She explained that the new category was added “thanks to high local demand.”
