Honolulu’s First Indoor Pickleball Club Serves Up a Game-Changing Social Scene Downtown

A new pickleball and social club in downtown Honolulu is making waves. Pickles at Forté, created by Avalon Development, has turned the former Walmart space into Honolulu’s first indoor pickleball facility. Since its opening earlier this year, it has become a popular place for both recreation and community gathering.

New Club Offers Sports and Social Fun

Pickles at Forté spans 40,000 square feet and includes six indoor, air-conditioned courts. The club also has changing rooms, golf simulators, and relaxing lounge spaces. Memberships start at $125 per month and come with perks like daily open play, lockers, and two hours of free parking.

Members can enjoy drinks from Teapresso and shop at On-Point Sports, a local racket sports store offering gear and clothing.

Strong Community Support

Robby Kelley, Chief Development Officer of Avalon Development, spoke with Kay Mukaigawa on Living Akamai about the project. “The response from the community has been incredible,” Robby Kelley said. “Pickles has become more than just a place to play—it’s a place to connect. We’ve launched league play and have our first club tournament coming up, which has added a fun, competitive element that our members really enjoy.”

Avalon Development aimed to make better use of the empty space. “Retail is changing, and we wanted to create something experiential,” Robby Kelley said. “Pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in America, and here in Hawai‘i, the demand is huge. Indoor courts solve a real problem for players, especially on rainy days, while giving people a reason to come downtown and stay downtown.”

Future Plans for Expansion

Pickles at Forté is only the beginning of Avalon Development’s plans. They hope to expand the club to the second floor of the building. That phase will add 10 more courts, a sports bar, restaurants, and more entertainment.

Avalon Development is also looking for partners and tenants to help bring more energy to downtown Honolulu.
