Seaside Heights Pickleball Court Upgrade: Construction is about to begin on new pickleball courts and an upgraded basketball court in Seaside Heights, New Jersey. The work, located next to Hugh J. Boyd Elementary School on Bay Boulevard, will take 45 days to finish once it begins. The goal is to give the community more space for outdoor sports and recreation.
The Seaside Heights Borough Council has chosen Eosso Brothers Paving, based in Farmingdale, to carry out the work. The plan includes turning one of the two existing basketball courts into four new pickleball courts. The other basketball court will be upgraded and remain in place.
Purpose-Built Pickleball Courts
Unlike many pickleball courts that are painted over tennis courts, these will be purpose-built just for pickleball. That means they’ll be made specifically for the game from the ground up.
“There will be four purpose-built pickleball courts – not converted tennis courts – and one basketball court within the space,”
said Seaside Heights Borough Administrator Christopher Vaz.
Some of the money for the project comes from a $68,000 grant that the borough received last year. This funding helped make the plan a reality after long discussions about how best to use the space.
Community and Student Access
The location of the new courts is right next to Hugh J. Boyd Elementary School. Students will be able to use the area during recess or other times as long as the courts are not already reserved.
“Students from the school would still be able to access the area during recess and other time periods, assuming the courts were not reserved,” (Christopher Vaz).
This move is expected to give both students and residents more places to stay active and enjoy sports close to home.
