Massive Pickleball Policy Shift at Kino: What Every Player Needs to Know

Kino Sports Complex Pickleball Fee: Starting January 1, 2026, Pima County will require all pickleball players at the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Arizona, to pay a $10 per hour fee and reserve a court online before playing. This change is aimed at managing crowding and cutting down long wait times at the popular facility.

The Kino Sports Complex, located at 2500 East Ajo Way, will move away from its current first-come, first-serve system and introduce an online booking system. This new system is designed to guarantee that players will have a court ready for them when they arrive, instead of waiting around or hoping for an open spot.

Why the New Fee and System?

Sarah Horvath, director of the Kino Sports Complex, explained the reason behind the changes.

“Our pickleball courts are extremely popular with almost 40,000 people using them in 2024,”. “Unfortunately, sometimes that can lead to long wait times. This new system solves that problem.”(Sarah Horvath)

The new reservation system is expected to help players plan their visits better and make the experience more enjoyable. A one-hour court reservation will cost $10. For a group of four, that means each person will pay $2.50 for an hour of play.

Details About the Courts

The Kino South Complex opened in 2020 as part of the most recent expansion of the Kino Sports Complex. It features 20 lighted pickleball courts. Until now, these courts were available to players without a reservation unless they were booked for private events or tournaments.

With the upcoming changes, players must now book their court online before arriving. This change affects all players using the facility from January 1, 2026, onward.

How the Money Will Be Used

Pima County officials say the money collected from court reservations will go toward keeping the courts in good condition. The goal is to make sure the courts meet current tournament standards and stay well-maintained over time.

The fee and online reservation system are expected to make scheduling easier and improve the playing experience for everyone who visits the Kino Sports Complex.

News in Brief: Kino Sports Complex Pickleball Fee

Beginning January 1, 2026, Pima County will charge $10 per hour for pickleball court reservations at the Kino Sports Complex. Players must book online in advance. The new system aims to reduce wait times and maintain the 20 lighted courts, which saw 40,000 visitors in 2024.
