Rotary Club Launches Pickleball Tournament to Power Youth Mental Health and Global Change

Rotary Pickleball Tournament Fundraiser: The Rotary Club of Mercer Island will hold its first Pickleball Tournament fundraiser from August 22 to 24 at the Luther Burbank Park sports courts. The event will showcase the park’s eight new pickleball courts and raise money to support youth mental health and other charitable causes.

Raising Funds for Mental Health and More

The tournament will follow a round-robin format and benefit several causes. Twenty-five percent of the net proceeds will go to The Scooty Fund, a nonprofit created by Kasey Taylor and Tara Neilson — both graduates of Mercer Island High School — to honor Will Taylor, also a Mercer Island graduate. The group works to promote emotional health, education, and support for young adults.

The rest of the money will support other causes like cancer research, food and housing support, clean water, and more. The Rotary Club said,

“Rotary’s motto is ‘Service Above Self’ and we hope you join us in christening the new pickleball courts while raising money to improve lives here and abroad.”

Event Details and Registration Info

Matches will run daily from 8 a.m. to about 7 p.m. The tournament will start with women’s doubles on Friday, followed by mixed doubles on Saturday, and end with men’s doubles on Sunday. Gold, silver, and bronze playoffs will take place in each category.

Players can register for $75 per person plus event fees until August 13. From August 14, late registration will cost $90 plus event fees. A food truck will also be available on-site each day between 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Making a Local and Global Impact

The tournament is not only about sports but also about making a difference. It brings the community together to enjoy a new facility while helping others. The event supports local youth and global causes, showing how sports and service can go hand in hand.
