Campbell Park Pickleball Court Upgrades: The Willoughby Hills Recreation Commission has approved $2,000 to improve the pickleball courts at Campbell Park, located at 35405 Chardon Road. The work will begin in the coming weeks, aiming to repaint and repair the courts that opened in 2022.
Affordable Paint Price Helps Move Project Forward
City Councilman Joe Jarmuszkiewicz, who serves on the Recreation Commission, said the project was delayed because of high prices for supplies. “The rec board finally locked down some decent prices for paint and stuff for the court, so the commission approved the money,” Joe Jarmuszkiewicz said. “It took a long time because the pricing went outrageous. Sherwin Williams came up with a price of about 25% of what they were getting quoted for, so we’re going to go forward with that.”
Cost Breakdown and Purchase Plans
Recreation Coordinator David Patton shared the cost details. “The final cost of all paint, because we’re tax exempt, would be $1,050,” David Patton said. He also explained that Mark Grubiss, the city’s road superintendent, suggested adding $300 more for tape and other tools needed for striping.
Earlier, David Patton found prices online ranging from $6,000 to $6,300 just for paint, tape, and tools to redo the courts. The new quote brings the total far below that amount. The extra money from the approved $2,000 will be saved for future use on the courts.
“I’m still getting calls,” David Patton said. “We still have to get the materials and the money for the materials.”
Looking Ahead to More Park Improvements
The Recreation Commission is also thinking about other upgrades for the Campbell Park area. Last year, one of the four courts was changed into a dual-purpose court to support more activities.
What This Means for the Community
This improvement will help keep the pickleball courts safe and enjoyable for players. By saving money now, the city will also have funds ready for future maintenance. The updates show that the Recreation Commission is continuing to support and improve local sports spaces.
