Aurora Park Pickleball Court Repairs: The Newton Parks Department is working with Minturn Incorporated to fix cracks that have appeared on the pickleball courts at Aurora Park. Not all courts are damaged. The city is ensuring repairs are made correctly to avoid similar problems in the future.
Cracks Found After Recent Project
The cracks appeared on parts of the court surface, not across all four courts. Newton City Administrator Matt Muckler said that repairs are being made with help from the company that built the courts.
“We found a little bit of cracking that’s not on the entire court surface, but on a couple of places on that court,” said Matt Muckler. “Our Parks Department is working with the contractor to get that repaired. So we are in the process of making that repair, and certainly that makes us sensitive to doing the final coating correctly and when the temperature is right on the tennis courts, so we don’t have this problem in the future.”
Background on the Project
In September 2023, Minturn Incorporated from Brooklyn won the $370,000 contract to build the pickleball courts. The project was completed about a year later. Now, Minturn is also renovating six tennis courts in Aurora Park and adding two more.
The work also includes upgrading the lights at the tennis courts. The new lighting system will also cover the pickleball courts, as part of a $1 million project.

The city is focusing on making sure repairs are done correctly, especially with upcoming work on the tennis courts. Officials want to avoid problems caused by timing or temperature during construction.
