Skaneateles Pickleball Tournament Serves Up Nearly $6K for New Community Courts—Here’s How Locals Rallied

Skaneateles Pickleball Tournament Fundraising: A doubles pickleball tournament held on July 19 and 20 at Austin Park in Skaneateles raised $5,992 to help fund six new pickleball courts. The event brought together 100 players across eight skill divisions, supporting a $450,000 community project aimed at enhancing public recreational space.

Tournament Attracts 100 Players to Austin Park

The weekend tournament welcomed players of all skill levels. Participants competed in mixed, women’s, and men’s divisions. Medals were awarded to the top three teams in each bracket. All matches took place at Austin Park, which is also the future site of the planned new pickleball courts.

Tournament director Tom Fairhurst praised the volunteers who helped organize the event.

“I’d like to thank all the volunteers that made this tournament possible, especially Dawn Wolff and Alisa Salibra, who worked the registration desk all weekend, along with other duties,”

he said in a statement.

Winners Across All Divisions

In the mixed advanced division, Joanna Call and Rick Kulon won the gold. Camerin Scaglione and Matt Scaglione took first place in the mixed intermediate bracket. In the recreational category, Naamu Harvey and Nick Beach finished on top.

For the women’s advanced division, Claraissa Powers and Sandra Yang claimed the gold medal. The intermediate level was won by Elaine Vassie and Adrianna Lawson. In the recreational bracket, Linda Guyder and Eileen Bignese earned first place.

Among the men, John Sheridan and Daniel Alexander took the top spot in the advanced division. Ronald Gebo and Kevin Burke finished first in the intermediate group.

Ongoing Effort to Fund New Pickleball Courts

The $5,992 raised from this tournament will go toward the total cost of building six new fenced-in pickleball courts at Austin Park. The full project is estimated to cost $450,000. So far, $162,042 has been raised for the effort. Donations can still be made through the Central New York Community Foundation.
