Enfield Annex Pickleball Courts Expansion: The Town Council of Enfield, Connecticut, has approved the construction of eight new public pickleball courts at the Enfield Annex. The project, costing just over $586,000, aims to replace the aging and expensive-to-maintain tennis courts. The new courts will be located on the western side of the current tennis court area.
Plan to Replace Old Tennis Courts
Enfield’s Department of Public Works Director Donald Nunes said the current six tennis courts are costly to maintain. To improve the area, the town will build eight new pickleball courts and remove the eastern side of the old tennis courts. That space will be turned into a grassy area.
There is also a chance that two more courts will be added on the eastern side, but that would require an additional $33,000.
Long-Term Court Surface Warranty
The construction plan includes a new concrete base with a 25-year warranty. The court surface will come with a 10-year warranty, ensuring a longer lifespan and fewer maintenance issues.
“There will be a 25-year warranty on the new concrete base beneath the courts and a 10-year warranty on the court surface,” Donald Nunes said.
Possible Expansion and Community Benefits
Town officials may later approve the two extra courts if needed. The new pickleball courts are expected to offer more recreational options for local residents and help grow the sport in the community.
