Verlie B. Collins Center Reopening Effort
Sylacauga Parks and Recreation is working with the Sylacauga Housing Authority to reopen the Verlie B. Collins Center. The center will be a shared-use space, giving the public more places to gather and stay active.
Playground Request and Youth Sports Registration
The department is preparing a request for a new playground at Beth Yates Park. At the same time, youth sports registration is now open. Sports offered include cheerleading, flag football, soccer, tackle football, and volleyball. These programs are expected to serve about 400 children between the ages of three and sixteen. The registration deadline is Friday, August 1.
Summer Day Camp Wrap-Up
The summer Day Camp recently ended, with an average of 65 kids attending each day. The camp gave children fun, safe activities during the summer months.
Plans for a New Recreation Center
One of the biggest projects in planning is a new recreation center. This facility is still in the design phase. Plans include two indoor basketball courts, a swimming pool, a fitness center, meeting rooms, and an indoor walking track.
