Sweatt Park Pickleball Court Renovation: Sweatt Park in Wrentham, Massachusetts, officially reopened on July 24 with a celebration that featured hot dogs, hamburgers, and ice cream. The event also introduced four brand-new pickleball courts as part of a major renovation project supported by $1.2 million in American Rescue Plan Act funding.
Park Gets Major Upgrades
The park renovation began in September of last year. The work included clearing the site, tearing down old structures, and adding several new features. These included benches, smooth concrete walkways, improved drainage, new stairs, and more parking spaces. The old tennis court was also updated.
To protect the roots of several 100-year-old trees, walking paths were adjusted instead of removed. This helped keep the natural beauty of the area while adding modern features.
Construction and Design Teams Involved
Argus Construction Corporation, based in Bedford, handled the renovation work. They were selected through a formal proposal process. Vanasse Hangen Brustlin Incorporated led the design work and also managed the construction oversight.
According to the community announcement, “The park revitalization project broke ground last September. Funded through $1.2 million in American Rescue Recovery Act funding, it involved site preparation, demolition, grading and the installation of various amenities, including benches, concrete walkways, drains, renovated stairs, a renovated tennis court, the four new pickleball courts and added parking spaces.”
Part of a Larger Effort
The updated park is a key part of Wrentham’s larger goal to improve public spaces. It follows the recent renovation of the Center School parking lot, which added more than 100 new parking spots.
