Moore Memorial’s First Pickleball Tournament Sparks Rivalry, Rewards Champions, and Unveils New Community Star

Moore Memorial Pickleball Tournament Winners: Moore Memorial Methodist Church hosted its first-ever pickleball tournament on July 25 and July 26, 2025, welcoming teams and spectators to enjoy two days of friendly competition. The event included prizes for winning teams and honored an outstanding player for their sportsmanship and dedication.

First Tournament Draws Community Together

The tournament took place at Moore Memorial Methodist Church, marking a new annual event for the local pickleball community. Players formed teams and competed across two days, while visitors enjoyed snacks and drinks from a church-run concession stand offering hot dogs, chips, sweets, and beverages.

Winners Crowned Over Two Days of Play

On Friday, July 25, the team “Mexican Pickles,” made up of Alyssa Castillo and Leo Castillo from New Albany, won the top prize. The brother and sister duo took home a $200 check for their victory.

On Saturday, July 26, the team “Chicken & Dumplings” claimed first place. George Edwards of Oxford and Vincent Van of Flowood earned a $250 prize after a strong performance on the second day.

Special Award Highlights Spirit of the Game

In addition to team prizes, one individual was recognized with a special honor. The Pickleballer Award was given to Traice Turberville of Vaiden for their dedication, enthusiasm, or standout play during the tournament.

A Promising Start to a New Tradition

The success of the tournament signals a growing interest in pickleball within the church and the broader community. With teams and players showing excitement and strong turnout, Moore Memorial Methodist Church looks forward to continuing the tradition.

Plans are already underway for next year’s tournament, which organizers hope will attract even more participants and spectators.
