Glendale Park Pickleball Court Expansion: Salt Lake City leaders opened 12 new pickleball courts at Glendale Park on Saturday, August 2, 2025. Mayor Erin Mendenhall, city officials, and local players attended the event. The courts are part of a bigger plan to bring more pickleball options to the city’s west side.
A Park Built by the People
The new courts were added during the transformation of the old Raging Waters waterpark site. The idea was part of the Department of Public Lands’ Vision Plan, announced in 2022.
The original plan included just four pickleball courts, but community feedback helped grow that number to 12. Four tennis courts were turned into pickleball courts to meet public demand.
“These courts are the direct result of community voices shaping their own public spaces, and we’re proud to deliver this kind of meaningful, equitable investment to the Glendale neighborhood,” said Erin Mendenhall.
More Pickleball Access Coming Soon
City officials said this project is part of a larger push to add more pickleball courts across Salt Lake City. Right now, 14 courts are already open on the city’s east side.
By next year, 26 pickleball courts will be available on the west side as well. The 12 new Glendale Park courts are the start of that expansion.
First New Regional Park in 60 Years
This is the first part of Salt Lake City’s first new regional park in 60 years. The full first phase is expected to be finished by fall.
It will also include a full basketball court, a playground for kids of all abilities, shaded seating, walking paths, an open grass area, and more parking.
