Pickleball Craze Transforms St. Lawrence Memorial Park—Tournament Set to Draw Record Crowd

St. Lawrence Memorial Park Pickleball Boom: Pickleball is gaining fans in Ogdensburg, New York, as more players gather at St. Lawrence Memorial Park. The park’s courts have seen a steady increase in visitors, especially on Saturday mornings, and a tournament is planned for August 30, 2025, to keep the momentum going.

Courts See More Players

The pickleball courts at St. Lawrence Memorial Park, located at 204 Spring Street, have been busy. In 2023, four courts were built with funds for only two nets. Thanks to fundraising, volunteers were able to add two more nets and install solar lighting for night games.

Erin Ferg, a member of the fundraising team, said having all four courts ready has made a big difference.

“The pickle ball courts have really brought the park back to life, we have pickle ball paddles in the box by the courts along with a volleyball, and basketball for anyone who wants to play,” Erin Ferg said. “It’s not unusual for there to be a few folks playing late mornings or evenings outside of the regular groups.”

Open Play Every Saturday

Saturday mornings are now a hotspot for local pickleball fans. From 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., players from around the area join in open play. The extra courts allow more people to play at once, making the sport more accessible for everyone.

Tournament Set for August 30

A local tournament will be held on August 30, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the same park. The format will be double elimination. Teams must include either one male and one female or two females.

The cost to enter is $15 per team, with 100% of the money paid out as prizes. Only 16 teams will be allowed, and all players must be 18 or older.

Those interested can visit the Facebook page “Ogdensburg Pickleball” for updates, sign-up information, and weekly open play details.

Growing Impact on the Community

The courts are not only encouraging people to stay active but also helping build a stronger community. With more events and open play times, the sport is bringing residents together.

The park has become a welcoming spot for people of all ages, and the continued support may lead to more events and improvements in the future.
