Tom Diana Park Pickleball Upgrades: Yorktown celebrated the grand opening of six newly upgraded pickleball courts on Monday at Tom Diana Park in the Granite Knolls Recreation & Sports Complex. The courts now have smooth surfaces, fresh paint, new fencing, and lights for night games, making it a top spot for players in Westchester County.
Major Upgrades to Boost Safety and Play
The project included full repairs to the courts, which were built over cracked tennis courts that had caused surface problems. Workers removed the old courts and built a strong new base to stop future cracking.
Parks Superintendent James Martorano Jr. said,
“We have reclaimed the ground here so that there will no longer be any cracks. We’ve always led the way with pickleball, and we are continuing to lead the way with the best pickleball courts in Westchester County.”
A new drainage system was also added to protect the courts from water damage and help them last longer.
Community Helped Make It Happen
Town Supervisor Ed Lachterman praised the local players who helped throughout the process.
“This comes down to a bunch of dedicated pickleball players who really helped to not only give advice, but they volunteer, fund raise, help run the courts and make sure that people have their permits.”
Councilwoman Luciana Haughwout shared how important the courts are for families.
“It might be pickleball, but it’s passion. It’s not only the pickleball community, but how they pay it forward. Kids are playing with their parents, they’re getting off their iPads and they’re getting outside.”
Councilman Patrick Murphy added,
“I want to congratulate the pickleball community. This is Yorktown offering another recreational opportunity for our constituents.”
Deputy Supervisor Sergio Esposito said,
“The place looks absolutely beautiful. Come on down and enjoy Yorktown because Yorktown is the best place to live.”
Court Use and Access
The courts are open daily from sunrise to 10 p.m. To play, residents need a permit. Permits are valid from April 1 to November 30 each year.
A Big Step for Recreation in Yorktown
The new courts are a major improvement for players and the community. With better surfaces and lighting, more people can enjoy the game during the day and evening. The upgrades also reflect Yorktown’s commitment to recreation and active living.
