New Pickleball Court at Aging Well Center Promises Fresh Fun and Fitness for Woonsocket Seniors

Aging Well Pickleball Court Project: Aging Well, the senior center in Woonsocket, is almost finished building a new outdoor area at 84 Social Street, which includes a full pickleball court. The center will hold a fundraiser on Saturday, August 9, to help raise the last bit of money needed to complete the project.

Pickleball Court for All Members

The court is part of a larger plan to add more outdoor options for seniors. It was built where a parking lot once stood behind the center. The court is painted and ready, offering seniors a new way to stay active and have fun together.

Executive Director Ryan MacLeod said pickleball has become a favorite sport for older adults. However, there are not many places to play in the city.
“Seniors have been quite clear about their desire to keep the senior center at 84 Social St., and this project brings to life Mayor Beauchamp’s desire to have outdoor greenspace options at the senior center that serves so many Woonsocket residents,” said MacLeod.

Designed for Fitness and Fun

The pickleball court is part of a multi-use greenspace. Other features include shuffleboard, raised garden beds, benches, and shaded areas to sit and relax. The court will be free to use for all Aging Well members. Membership costs $18 per year and includes access to all center programs.

Ryan MacLeod added,
“We’d love to see newer retirees and younger seniors turn out as well, folks in their 50s or 60s looking to stay active and find community.”
He also said,
“But it’s not just a pickleball court, it’s a statement about what aging well can look like.”

A Step Toward Healthy Aging

This project supports seniors who want to stay healthy, social, and active. It gives them a place to enjoy sports and the outdoors close to home. With community support and help from city leaders, the court is nearly complete and expected to open fully this fall.
