U.S. Legends Pickleball League Teams: The U.S. Legends Pickleball League is forming teams for its first season this fall, focusing on players over 50. Tryouts took place this weekend at Performance Pickleball RVA, where 200 players from across the country competed for spots on 12 teams, including the Richmond Rocketeers owned by Marcie Cetani.
A New League for Experienced Players
The league aims to bring together top pickleball players aged 50 and older from around the U.S. Teams will be based in states from Florida to New York, including one in Richmond, Virginia. Michael Cao, co-founder of the league, said many players want to keep competing even after their prime athletic years.
“A lot of these players are all former athletes; they all compete all their life, and they don’t want to stop competing,” he said.
Player Passion and Growth of the League
Marcie Cetani, a former Division One tennis player who started pickleball during COVID-19, said joining the league has been an exciting experience.
“I’ve learned so much about people and pickleball, and it’s been great,” she said.
Cetani expressed her excitement about the positive energy and competition during the tryouts.
“Just being able to compete and get out here and the reception that we’re getting here is just amazing,” she added.
The league’s inaugural season will begin in September with four matches, called showdowns, played at indoor facilities across the country. The U.S. Legends Pickleball League aims to give veteran athletes a chance to compete and share their love of the sport.
