Positively Pickled Pickleball Tournament Fundraiser: The second annual Positively Pickled Pickleball Tournament was held last weekend at the Bennett Park outdoor courts in Hibbing, Minnesota, drawing around 50 players. The event, a fundraiser for the Hibbing College Foundation, featured competition and fun for players of all skill levels.
A Mix of Fun and Competition
“This is a great tournament for both fun and competition. There’s something for everyone,”
said Melissa Versich, director of the Hibbing College Foundation.
Players came from Hibbing, Grand Rapids, surrounding central Minnesota towns, and the Twin Cities. Events included women’s doubles, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles at both recreational and intermediate levels.
Winners and Awards
Gold, silver, and bronze medals went to: Dede Antonelli, Josephine Baird, Ethan Bayliss, Justin Bergman, Bjorn Bolstad, Charity Bradseth, Sarah Dobson, Michael Endekas, Paul Erola, Koryn Greskowiak, Sarah Greskowiak, Corinne Ivanca, Molly Johnson-Marion, Jeff Perunovich, Susan Perunovich, Laura Wadd, and Steve Walli.
Before each division, Melissa Versich thanked the players and explained the foundation’s mission. Organizers expressed appreciation to everyone for their sportsmanship and encouragement.
Organizers and Support
Tournament directors Kelli Horvath, Molly Johnson-Marion, and Shannon Scipioni worked to plan the event. Sponsors, along with several Hibbing and Chisholm businesses, made the tournament and silent auction possible.
Planning for the third annual tournament in 2026 is already underway, with the date to be announced by August 31, 2025.
Supporting Education
Funds from the event will help the Hibbing College Foundation, a nonprofit that supports Minnesota North College Hibbing. The foundation provides scholarships and program enhancements to help students achieve their educational goals.
