Big Sky Unveils State-of-the-Art Pickleball Courts After $1.3M Community-Funded Makeover

Big Sky Pickleball Courts Renovation: The Big Sky Community Organization (BSCO) has completed a $1.3 million renovation of its pickleball and tennis courts, thanks to a major donation from community member John Dancu. The project includes eight new pickleball courts and two tennis courts built with special construction to prevent cracking.

Renovations and Features

The old courts were cracked and crowded. The new courts use post-tension construction and come with a 50-year warranty. The nearby “courthouse” building was also updated with new bathrooms but will remain closed for now while more park improvements begin on August 11.

Community Support and Ribbon Cutting

John Dancu, who moved to Big Sky from Atlanta two years ago, found a welcoming pickleball community. At the August 7 ribbon-cutting event, he thanked the more than 70 people who helped raise funds for the project.

“I’m real proud of y’all, and how everybody came together and donated money, it was a real team effort,” (John Dancu).

He named the facility the “Dancu Community Courts” to highlight its role as a gathering place.

“I love it here. And I love it here because of the community and the people that I’ve met,” (John Dancu).

Acknowledgments and Future Plans

Madeleine Feher, CEO of BSCO, praised staff and partners who made the project possible. She thanked Mike Scholz for leading the effort, Two Bear Construction for restoring the courthouse, and Big Sky Rotary Club for helping with the wooden deck. Feher said,

“John, you showed up with heart, you changed our lives, and you made this project possible.”(Madeleine Feher)

BSCO will hold a community pickleball tournament over Labor Day weekend, with a scramble-style event on August 31. Residents are encouraged to join BSCO’s WhatsApp pickleball group for updates on games and events.
