Dill Dinkers Edgewater Pickleball Complex: Dill Dinkers, a Maryland-based pickleball company, will open its first Anne Arundel County indoor pickleball complex in Edgewater in autumn 2026. The facility will occupy 25,800 square feet in a former Kmart building that has been mostly vacant since 2020.
Growing Pickleball Scene in Anne Arundel County
The former Kmart closed in August 2020 and was divided into several stores. Tractor Supply Company opened in part of the space in 2024, while the rest remained empty until now. The shopping center also saw new businesses like Timber Pizza Company, Nico’s Bagels & Brunch, and Charleys Cheesesteaks recently open or under construction.
Anne Arundel County is experiencing a rapid rise in pickleball. Earlier this year, PickleRage opened in Glen Burnie. Life Time fitness converted the old Annapolis Bed Bath & Beyond into 11 pickleball courts in October 2024. Ball At The Mall opened an indoor pickleball court in Annapolis Mall in November 2024. A future Edgewater Recreation Center will also feature pickleball courts.
Features and Services at Dill Dinkers
Dill Dinkers will offer climate-controlled courts and a Pro Shop powered by Pickleball Central. Players can take private and semi-private lessons, join open play, tournaments, leagues, and other events.
Bridget McLaughlin, Dill Dinkers’ regional developer for southern Maryland, will own and operate the Edgewater club. She is also looking for franchisees interested in opening pickleball clubs in the southern Maryland area, including Anne Arundel, Calvert, Prince George’s, Charles, and St. Mary’s counties.
“Dill Dinkers was born in Maryland, which makes this 5th franchise location especially meaningful,”. “There’s always a need for indoor spaces where community members can stay active while avoiding the challenges of unpredictable seasons. Dill Dinkers creates spaces for all ages, making pickleball approachable for everyone. We’re excited to bring that experience to Edgewater, so residents can play safe and play well.”(Bridget McLaughlin)
Expansion Plans
Founded in November 2022 in Columbia, Dill Dinkers currently runs three company-owned locations in Maryland. The company launched a nationwide franchise program in September 2023 and has signed developers for over 400 locations. It now operates 20 indoor pickleball clubs.
Dill Dinkers is also planning to expand into Illinois, Texas, and California, and is exploring international markets in the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and India.
