Pickleball Takes Over D.C.: National Mall Transforms Into Epic Court for 2025 Festival

The National Mall of Pickleball will return to Washington, D.C., from September 19 to 21, 2025, celebrating National Pickleball Day with a free, three-day event. Hosted by the Trust for the National Mall and Humana, the event will feature 11 temporary courts and nearly 250 hours of pickleball just outside the Smithsonian Metro station.

This year’s theme, “Moves That Serve,” highlights the fun and inclusive spirit of pickleball. The event will include clinics with professional players, walk-on play, court reservations, and daily special activities. Players of all ages and skill levels are welcome.

Event Highlights and Schedule

The event will open on Friday, September 19, with the DMV Invitational Tournament where local leagues compete. Other activities include a media match for Washington press members, a raffle to play with pros, and a daily knockout game to crown a champion.

Saturday, September 20, will feature the Veteran Volley tournament, honoring U.S. veterans with a round-robin competition. The Ultimate Duo Challenge will also take place, where eight finalist pairs from across the U.S. compete for the title. Additionally, the Changemaker Cup will celebrate nonprofit teams supporting senior health and well-being. The day will also include more chances to play with pros and the knockout game.

Sunday, September 21, will showcase a match between professional players from the Association of Pickleball Players and the D.C. Pickleball Team on Center Court. The final day will repeat the pro raffle and knockout competition.

Court Reservations and Participation

Reservations for courts open on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at 12:00 PM Eastern Time. The event encourages community participation with opportunities for lessons, clinics, and casual play.

National Pickleball Day is celebrated every August 8, bringing together players worldwide. The National Mall of Pickleball event turns America’s Front Yard into a pickleball hub, offering fun, fitness, and community connection.
