Ohio Open Pickleball Championships Debut: Cash Prizes, Champion Jackets, and a Serve Contest with a $1,000 Twist

The first annual Ohio Open Pickleball Championships 2025 will take place from August 13 to 17, 2025, at Stadium Park in Canton, Ohio. This new tournament brings players and the community together to compete and celebrate pickleball in a fun, exciting setting.

Event Schedule and Location

The Ohio Open offers a full schedule of events across five days at Stadium Park, located at 2501 Fulton Rd NW, Canton, OH 44709. The tournament kicks off with a Fun Night on Thursday, August 14, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, featuring a serve contest and free clinics led by pros.

Singles matches start Friday evening, August 15, with a player meeting at 5:30 PM followed by games until 8:00 PM. On Saturday, August 16, all gender doubles and combination doubles take place, starting with a 10:00 AM player meeting and match play from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM. Sunday, August 17, is dedicated to mixed doubles events, following the same schedule as Saturday.

Player Information and Rules

All player meetings will be held at the North Courts with the Tournament Director. Players can warm up early before matches, but only get a two-minute warm-up for their first match. During round robin play, no additional warm-up time is allowed. Each team is permitted one timeout per game.

Player Gifts and Awards

Adult players will receive an official Ohio Open logo hat or visor, a tournament towel, and a free second attempt in the serve contest. Junior players will get a logo hat, an event t-shirt, and also a free second try at the serve contest.

Medals for gold, silver, and bronze will be awarded to the top three finishers in each event. Adult gold medal winners will earn a special Ohio Open Champion Jacket, a lifetime award symbolizing their achievement. Full award details are available on ohioopenpickleball.com.

Serve Contest Details

The Ohio Open Serve Contest is open to all players and spectators. Each participant may enter up to three times, serving three times from each side per attempt. Points are scored based on accuracy and depth, with bonus points for hitting a can of X-40 balls near the baseline. A perfect score is 60 points, and around 42 points typically wins. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top seven contestants, with first place up to $1,000. More details are on the tournament website.

Special Singles Champion Trophy

Top adult men’s and women’s singles champions aged 17 to 49 at level 4.0 and above will have their names engraved on the Ohio Open Singles Champion Trophy. This trophy will be displayed in Canton, Ohio, and winners also receive gold medals and the Ohio Open Champion Jacket.

Registration and Refund Policy

Registration costs $70 and ends at midnight on August 13, 2025. Players can withdraw until midnight on July 30 for a refund minus processing fees.
