Alabama Amateur Open Serves Up $1,000 Cash Prizes and Big Rewards for Pickleball Players This August

Alabama Amateur Open Pickleball Tournament: The Alabama Amateur Open at PickleRage will take place from August 16 to August 17, 2025, in Mobile, Alabama. The tournament welcomes players of all skill levels from 2.5 to 5.0 and offers round-robin play with multiple games guaranteed. Registration closes on August 13, with a $70 fee for the first event.

About the Tournament

The Amateur Pickleball Association (APA) hosts the Alabama Amateur Open as part of its large national amateur tour, which includes nearly 150 events in 2025. Players earn rewards through APA’s PicklePerks program, turning entry fees and wins into cash credits for future tournaments or apparel. The event is open to all skill levels, divided first by rating and then by age groups, depending on the number of participants.

Event Format and Schedule

Players will compete in doubles starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, followed by mixed doubles on Sunday morning, and singles matches in the afternoon of either day. The format includes round-robin matches played to 11 points, with players needing to win by 2 points. Medal matches use a best-of-three sets format. Singles matches use rally scoring to 21 points, also requiring a 2-point lead. The tournament guarantees each player at least six games, with most playing seven to nine matches.

Registration and Rules

Early registration costs $70 for the first event, $50 for the second, and $35 for the third event. Players registering without a partner will receive a credit for future events if a partner cannot be found. All registrations are final, but credits may be issued for withdrawals made two or more weeks before the event. There are no refunds after payment. APA enforces rules to place players in the correct skill divisions based on their official DUPR ratings and past performance to maintain fair play.

Prize Money

The tournament offers cash prizes in open doubles divisions. Any player, regardless of skill or age, can compete for these prizes. The gold prize is $1,000, silver is $600, and bronze is $400. Prize payouts are divided as 50% for gold, 30% for silver, and 20% for bronze, depending on full registration of the division.
