Ravenna Lake Pickleball Court Expansion: Buffalo County will add two pickleball courts to Ravenna Lake as part of future improvements. The Buffalo County Commissioners approved an agreement for architecture and design services with Miller & Associates during their meeting on Tuesday, August 12.
Project Details
Buffalo County Facilities Director Steve Gaasch presented the proposal, along with an update on camping numbers and amenities at Ravenna Lake. He said the courts will be designed and engineered by Miller & Associates, the same firm used by the City of Kearney for other pickleball projects.
Growing Popularity of the Lake
The Buffalo County Recreation Area – Ravenna Lake has seen steady growth in visitors. Since 2019, camping numbers have risen, with 2,000 campers visiting last year and generating $50,000 for the county. This year, numbers are trending slightly higher.
Existing Amenities
The campground includes 41 RV sites with primitive, electric, and water hookup options. Fishing opportunities are available with the lake stocked with largemouth bass, crappie, catfish, and bluegill. Other features include a playground, hiking trails, horseshoe pits, and a disc golf course. A bathhouse with showers was added in 2022.
What’s Next
The new pickleball courts are expected to add to the lake’s appeal as a recreation spot. Officials believe this will attract more visitors and provide additional activities for both campers and day users.
