Loughran Park Courts to Undergo Major Makeover—Here’s What Pickleball Fans Can Expect

Loughran Park Pickleball Renovation: Pickleball and tennis courts at Loughran Park in Kingston will close starting Monday, Aug. 18, for renovations, Mayor Steve Noble’s office announced. The project will improve the courts, add sound mitigation, and increase player capacity, with work expected to finish in November.

Renovation Plans

The project will maintain the current court footprint while upgrading subgrade conditions and adding green infrastructure. Construction includes demolishing the existing tennis and pickleball courts and fencing, and installing two new tennis courts and eight new pickleball asphalt courts with fencing and bioretention swale landscaping.

Sound Mitigation and Safety Measures

Pickleball sound mitigation is part of the plan. Officials will install sound barriers, swap the pickleball and tennis court locations, and prohibit pickleball play on tennis courts. PSM Consulting LLC conducted a study to measure sound levels and recommend mitigation methods, including sound-reflective barriers and stronger fencing.

Construction Timeline and Hours

Kingston-based Arold Construction Company will handle the work, starting with temporary construction fencing on Monday, Aug. 18, followed by demolition of the old courts. Construction hours will be Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The rest of Loughran Park will remain open during the project.

Community Impact

“Pickleball has become increasingly popular over the last several years, and our residents have been asking for new courts,”

Mayor Steve Noble said.

“We are excited to deliver a great project that will modernize the tennis and pickleball complex at Loughran Park, and includes sound mitigation for nearby neighbors.”

Parks and Recreation Director Lynsey Timbrouck added,

“These improvements will be another step in providing safe and enjoyable recreation facilities and green spaces for the community and visitors, which is of the utmost importance to our department.”

Officials asked for patience from pickleball fans, saying the improvements

“will serve residents and visitors for generations to come.”
