Evans Park Pickleball Court Project: Evans Park in Adel will soon have its first-ever pickleball courts. Parks and Recreation Supervisor Ramona Dillinger said construction is underway, made possible by a $70,000 Legacy Grant from the Adel Lions Club. The courts are expected to be ready by late August or early September.
Funding and Community Support
Josh Shull, Treasurer of the Adel Lions Club, explained that the organization saves money each year from its flag program, partnering with local scout troops to place flags on properties during five holidays. The club sets aside $10,000 annually in a Legacy Fund to support larger community projects.
Shull said the idea for pickleball courts came from a member of the Adel Parks and Recreation Board.
“We decided that that would be a good place to put the money because young people can use it, older people can use it, it’s something that everyone in the community can benefit from.”
Construction Details
Concrete work for the courts is complete, and the project is moving forward with installation. Ramona Dillinger highlighted that the new courts will provide recreation opportunities for people of all ages in Adel.
The addition of pickleball courts represents the first step in bringing this popular sport to the community, encouraging fitness, social interaction, and outdoor activity for residents.
