Broussard Unveils $9M Pickleball Expansion and Veterans Memorial at St. Julien Park

Broussard Sports Complex Pickleball Expansion: The Broussard City Council has approved $8,950,000 to expand the Broussard Sports Complex at St. Julien Park. The project will include a new tennis and pickleball facility, a veterans memorial, and additional parking. Construction will add more recreational options and honor local military service.

The new tennis and pickleball facility will be built next to the eight current tennis courts. It will include 24 pickleball courts, a concession stand, a pro shop, and an elevated balcony. Sixteen of the courts will be covered, with overhead fans and lighting for year-round play.

“I’m pleased that the city council voted to approve the funding for this important project as another significant investment in our community,”

said Broussard Mayor Ray Bourque. He emphasized that improving residents’ quality of life is one of the city’s main priorities.

Veterans Memorial to Honor Service

The veterans memorial will be located on the park’s north side, overlooking a proposed pond. It will honor all six branches of the military. The design includes historical plaques, multiple flags, seating areas, and an engraved brick walkway for visitors to reflect and pay tribute.

“We are excited to have this project moving forward,”

said Broussard Parks and Recreation Director Jamey Abshire.

“We are proud to provide more for people to use and enjoy as we continue to expand the park.”

Long-Term Benefits for the Community

The additions are expected to boost recreational opportunities, draw more visitors, and strengthen community pride. With more courts, shaded play areas, and spaces for honoring veterans, the project combines sports, leisure, and remembrance in one location.
