Game Changer: Wimberley’s First Indoor Pickleball Facility Opens Soon—Here’s What Players Can Expect

Wimberley’s First Indoor Pickleball Facility Opens: Wimberley will soon have its first indoor pickleball facility, Pickle Y’all, opening this fall at the intersection of FM 3237 and Winter’s Mill Parkway. Created by local residents John and Libby Hagy, the center will feature four air-conditioned indoor courts, one outdoor court, and amenities for players and spectators. A soft opening is set for October 4.

The Hagys, both avid pickleball players, began the project in 2024. John Hagy said,

“As avid pickleball players ourselves, we wanted to create an elevated experience for fans of the sport.

Not only will we have four air conditioned courts, we wanted to build a facility in keeping with the Wimberley aesthetic that is a dedicated space for serious pickleball players.”

A Better Playing Experience

The new facility will eliminate the challenges of shared or converted courts.

“No longer will players have to contend with the wind of outdoor courts or the music and errant balls coming in from nearby games,” (John Hagy).

Players will book 90-minute sessions, longer than the usual 60 minutes, allowing for a more relaxed game without pressure from waiting teams.

Facility Features

Pickle Y’all will have two 5,600-square-foot indoor court areas, each with two courts. The indoor courts will be kept at 72 degrees and separated by doors, with seating areas for spectators. An outdoor court, pro shop, upstairs office with elevator access, indoor restrooms, a water fountain, and 37 parking spaces will also be included. The site is Dark Sky compliant.

Why Pickleball Appeals

Libby Hagy, a longtime tennis player, praised the sport’s accessibility.

“Many retired professional tennis players, like Andre Agassi, have taken up the sport. The hit is lighter because the whiffle-style ball is lighter than a tennis ball and it’s easier on the joints… it might actually develop hand-eye coordination better than other racquet sports.”

She also values the social side.

“It is an exciting activity you can do with friends and family… No matter how it’s played it is always a good time. In our case, our son Jack wasn’t too keen to play until he got on the court and now he’s absolutely hooked.”

Community Plans

The Hagys plan to hold clinics, start leagues, and host special events.

“After we open, we hope to hold clinics, build leagues and offer events such as father-son, mother-daughter tournaments and exhibition matches,”

Libby said. They also plan to organize DUPR rating sessions and “Play Your Level” nights.

Membership pre-sales will begin when the website launches next week. The Hagys aim for 100 members, with 25 already on the waiting list.

“We love Wimberley which is why we chose to make this kind of investment here,” John said.
