Picklewood Paddle Club Opening: Seattle is adding new pickleball venues as the sport continues to grow in popularity. The most anticipated opening is the Picklewood Paddle Club in SODO Urbanworks this fall, which will serve as both a playing venue and a social space.
Picklewood Paddle Club Opening
The Picklewood Paddle Club will feature seven indoor and four outdoor courts, a pro shop, and recreational activities like ping pong. Food and drink options will be led by cofounder and restaurateur Ethan Stowell, including a full-service restaurant, a beer garden, and a Rubinstein Bagels branch. Players can reserve courts or drop in, and lessons will be available. The location is next to wine tasting rooms within SODO Urbanworks.

Other Local Venues
Seattle’s official pickleball hub, Green Lake Park, offers eight public outdoor courts. Many other courts in the city are marked for both tennis and pickleball. Players can reserve spots online or try drop-in play. A large pickleball complex is planned near Magnuson Park for late 2026.
Franchises and New Facilities
The growing national franchise The Picklr will open an indoor facility in Fremont later this fall. Another venue, Pickle at the Palms, is expected to open in Interbay either later this year or early next.
The Game’s Origins
Pickleball was invented on Bainbridge Island in 1965 and became Washington’s official state sport in 2022. Visitors can still play at the game’s birthplace, the Battle Point Park Founders Pickleball Courts.
Significance
The new venues and expansions reflect pickleball’s rapid growth in Seattle and across the United States. With more courts, events, and lessons available, the city aims to meet rising demand and support players of all levels.

Seattle’s pickleball scene is expanding with the Picklewood Paddle Club opening in SODO Urbanworks this fall, plus new courts in Fremont, Interbay, and Magnuson Park by 2026. The sport, created in 1965 on Bainbridge Island, remains a major part of Washington’s recreational culture.
