Homer Pickleball Club Unveils Exciting 2025 Cosmic Hamlet Open—New Courts, Big Prizes, and a Community Bash Await

Homer Pickleball Club Tournament 2025: The Homer Pickleball Club will host the 2025 Cosmic Hamlet Open from Saturday, August 30, to Monday, September 1, 2025, at the SPARC, 600 Sterling Highway, Homer, Alaska. Registration opens July 1 and closes August 24 with a $60 entry fee. Final schedules will be released after registration ends.

Tournament Details

The event will follow a round-robin format, followed by playoffs and medal matches. Games will be played to 11 points, win by 2. Medal matches will be best two out of three. Medals will go to the top three teams in each division.

Start times will be posted after August 24. Players are encouraged to check the schedule the day before, as times may change.

Venue and Parking

The tournament takes place at SPARC. To enter, players must drive through the Homer Middle School parking lot but avoid the one-way exit marked on Google Maps.

Overflow parking will be available at the school lot, with a short path leading to SPARC. Larger vehicles must park there as well. Parking near the school should be avoided at 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Friday during drop-off and pickup hours. No overnight parking is allowed.

Practice and Warmups

The courts at SPARC will open for practice on Friday, August 29, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Warmup time will be allowed an hour before tournament play each day. During matches, teams get five minutes to warm up before their first game and two minutes before later games.

If many players are waiting during practice, games may be limited to 9 points. A paddle rack system will be used to keep matches organized.

Sportsmanship Rules

Tournament organizers stress fair play and good sportsmanship. Players are responsible for their own line calls and may call foot faults on the opposite side. Disputes should be resolved respectfully.

If a disagreement continues, players may request help from a director. Games will not have official referees, but volunteers may assist if available. Directors also reserve the right to remove players for unsportsmanlike behavior.

Gameplay Format

Matches begin with a coin toss. Winners may choose to serve, receive, or pick a side. Losers select from the remaining options. Each team gets two one-minute timeouts per game.

Courts will be assigned for each game, and players must exit carefully without disturbing other matches.

Any ball hitting the ceiling, lights, or fixed objects is ruled a fault. Water bottles must be kept at the back wall.

Per the USAP rulebook, if a server calls the wrong score, players must correct it before the return of serve. If corrected after, the point continues, and the score is fixed before the next serve.

Social Gathering

A social event will be held at Homer Brewing Company, 1411 Lake Shore Drive, Homer, Alaska, on Saturday, August 30, at 6:00 p.m. The brewery is a silver sponsor and provided the medal glasses for the top teams.

Equipment and Court Surface

The tournament ball will be the Optic Franklin X40. SPARC recently installed a hard rubber court surface with permanent pickleball lines. The surface plays differently from hardwood, offering more grip similar to outdoor courts. Players are advised to practice beforehand.

T-Shirts

A limited number of Cosmic Hamlet Open shirts will be sold at the event. Pre-orders are available through the Homer Pickleball Club website until July 23. Pre-ordered shirts can be picked up at the tournament.

Looking Ahead

With competitive play, community spirit, and social events, the 2025 Cosmic Hamlet Open promises to be a highlight for Alaskan pickleball. The round-robin and playoff format ensures that all teams will have multiple chances to play before elimination, keeping the tournament fair and engaging.
