Pickleball World Record Challenge Highland Park: Highland Park is attempting to break a world record by hosting the largest pickleball lesson ever. The Park District of Highland Park gathered more than 400 participants at Danny Cunniff Park on Monday, working with the Chicago Slice professional pickleball team and Mark Miller’s Munchkin Programs.
Record Attempt Led by Mark Miller
Mark Miller currently holds the world record for the largest pickleball lesson, set in Scottsdale, Arizona, in 2023 with 300 participants. In 2024, Miller also led the world’s largest tennis lesson with 400 children.
At Highland Park, he expressed confidence in breaking his own record.
“We’re going to do it, 444 kids today,” Miller said. “It’s a record.”
Community Excitement and Growth
Nick Baird, Director of Recreation for the Park District of Highland Park, said the event represents more than just a record attempt.
“The Park District is excited to be a part of this historic event to break a world record and promote youth involvement in the game of pickleball,” Baird said. “We are seeing a huge increase in youth and young adult participation in our own pickleball lessons and programs.”
Why It Matters
The record attempt highlights how quickly pickleball is growing, especially among young players. Organizers believe the event will encourage more children and teens to get involved in the sport. If successful, Highland Park will hold the title for the largest pickleball lesson ever.
