Russell County Pickleball Court Expansion: Russell County, Alabama, is preparing to open six new pickleball courts this October. Four courts are being built at the Russell County Sports Complex in Seale, and two more are under construction in Ladonia. The project, funded with $600,000, has been in planning for months.
Funding and Construction Plans
Russell County Commission Chairman Chance Corbett confirmed that the money was set aside specifically for the courts. He said the goal was to build high-quality facilities. “They’re going to be first class,” Chance Corbett said.
Construction is already underway. Once the concrete has cured, workers will paint the courts, add designs, and install fencing and nets.
Community Excitement
Corbett noted that local residents are eager for the courts to open, with some even offering to teach pickleball classes. “The comments have been great,” Corbett said. “People…can’t wait to see this [and are] so glad and knowing that we’re doing it professionally, we didn’t come out here and throw up something and try to make it work.”
He added that careful planning has gone into the project. “We actually have gone out, researched it, try to make it look as good as we could,” Corbett said.
Why It Matters
The new courts are expected to boost community recreation and bring more people into the growing sport of pickleball. With strong local interest already, Russell County is positioning itself as a new hub for the game in Alabama.
