Tragedy Halts Byrne and Baldwin Brothers’ Star-Studded Pickleball Bash Until 2026

Byrne and Baldwin Celebrity Pickleball Event Delay: The Byrne and Baldwin Brothers Celebrity Pickleball Bash, a charity event in Central New York, has been postponed until 2026. The Baldwin Fund announced the delay on Monday, citing “a recent tragedy in the Byrne family.” An obituary said Matthew Byrne, 28, died on August 12.

Event Delay and Statement

Elizabeth “Beth” Baldwin, executive director of The Baldwin Fund, shared the reason for the postponement.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Byrne family as they navigate this heartbreaking time.

This event has always been about family—both honoring our mother’s legacy and bringing people together in support of cancer research—and we know that family comes first.

We will carry that spirit forward when we return next year.”(Beth Baldwin)

Original Plans for the Event

The pickleball fundraiser was set for August 22–23 in Skaneateles. It was to feature actors Alec Baldwin and Stephen Baldwin playing against each other. Their sister, Beth Baldwin, helped organize the event through The Baldwin Fund.

Byrne Dairy & Deli was a partner for the event, which was created to raise money for breast cancer research in memory of Carol M. Baldwin, the late mother of the Baldwin family.

Celebrity and Pro Player Participation

The event was also scheduled to include exhibition matches with celebrities and pro players. Among them were Grayson Goldin, a medalist on the Association of Pickleball Players (APP) tour; Kelsey Grambeau, ranked in the APP’s top 10 for mixed and gender doubles; Hannah Blatt from the Brooklyn Pickleball Major League Pickleball (MLP) team; and Juan Benitez from the California Black Bears MLP team.

Ticket holders will be contacted directly with refund or transfer options.

Legacy of The Baldwin Fund

The Baldwin Fund has raised millions of dollars since it began in 2001. It now supports research for all forms of cancer across New York state. Carol M. Baldwin, who inspired the fund, died in 2022.

Alec Baldwin, Stephen Baldwin, Billy Baldwin, and Daniel Baldwin have long supported the cause and often return to Central New York for family events and cancer research efforts.

Looking Ahead

A new date for the Byrne and Baldwin Brothers Celebrity Pickleball Bash will be announced in 2026. The Baldwin family and Byrne family hope to continue the event’s mission of honoring Carol M. Baldwin and raising vital funds for cancer research.
