New Pickleball Court Ignites Community Spirit in Pickerel—See How Locals Are Rallying Together

Pearson-Pickerel Lions Club Pickleball Court: The Pearson-Pickerel Lions Club has finished building a new pickleball court this summer, giving the town of Pickerel, Wisconsin, a new place for recreation and community gatherings. The project cost about $50,000 and is already drawing players of all ages.

A Vision for Community Connection

Club members said the court was designed to bring people together.

“Our vision is to really make Pickerel a place for our local community, but for members and people that come over the summer or the winter to come be outside (and) be together,”

said Lynn Walters, a current member.

The Lions Club is part of a global service network that helps local communities. In Pickerel, members surveyed residents to find out what people wanted most.

“We viewed this project here, kind of surveyed the community, talked to a lot of people, kind of found out what a community need might be, and the focus became a pickleball court,”

said Alan Quig, former president.

Growing Popularity of Pickleball

Pickleball has grown quickly in the Northwoods and in other parts of the country. Many nearby towns already have courts, and Pickerel’s new facility is seeing steady use.

“It’s nice to have just this here so we can play whenever we want to,”

said young player Nolan Schofield, who is visiting his grandmother.

“Otherwise, we’d just go jump in the lake, but it’s fun.”

Plans for the Future

The Lions Club says the new court is only the first step. Members hope to turn the area into a larger community park for events and social gatherings.

“This is going to be the hub of our community, and bringing people here is something that we’ve seen happening and we’re looking to expand upon that,” (Lynn Walters).

To raise funds, the group launched the “Fill the Dill” campaign. Donations covered fencing and court markings, making the court fully official.

“It’s a great place to be, the Northwoods and Pickerel,” (Lynn Walters).

Community Impact

The new pickleball court provides residents and visitors with a fun and healthy activity while strengthening community ties. The Lions Club believes the court will become a central space for recreation and events, with plans for more improvements in the future.
