Pickle U Pickleball Community Hub: Pickle U in Williamsburg, Michigan, is giving people a chance to enjoy pickleball year-round. The indoor facility offers lessons, clinics, and open play for all ages, from kids to grandparents. It has quickly become a community spot where people come together to play, learn, and connect.
A Place for Everyone
Pickle U opened a year and a half ago to fill a gap in Grand Traverse County. The facility was created to meet the growing demand for indoor pickleball and now hosts players of all skill levels. Chief Executive Officer David Sexton said the sport is popular because it appeals to people of all ages.
“Pickleball is not a fad that’s going to go away because it’s all social. It’s all intergenerational. It’s got so much strategy, and there’s a lot, a lot of fun and fast activity as you move up from one level to the next.”(David Sexton)
Training and Instruction
Pickle U employs trained instructors to help people improve their skills.
“I’m PCI certified, which is, pickleball coaching institute. And then we have two certified instructors. We have another PCI certified instructor on the way. We’re giving lessons clinics. We want to teach, muscle memory,”
said one of the facility’s instructors.
Building Community Through Play
David Sexton said pickleball at Pickle U is about both fun and strategy.
“It’s just a fun game to play. But as you become more dedicated to the game, there’s a lot of strategy involved.
And we I’m able to play with my sons and play competitively as long as we play doubles. Yeah. But you see a lot of youth coming into this. This is only going to grow.”(David Sexton)
The Bigger Impact
The rise of Pickle U shows how pickleball is becoming more than just a sport in Northern Michigan. It provides a safe and welcoming place for families and friends to gather. With interest from both young players and older adults, the facility is set to play a major role in the sport’s growth in the region.
