Pickle in the Pines Fundraiser Tournament: The Longview Arboretum in Longview, Texas, is hosting the Pickle in the Pines indoor pickleball tournament this weekend to raise funds for its operations. The competition begins Saturday at 8 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m., continuing again Sunday at 9 a.m.
Fundraiser for the Arboretum
Around 100 players have registered for the indoor tournament. The event will not only feature matches but also offer a spectator area, snacks, and information about upcoming arboretum programs.
“We’re going to have a spectator area. We’ll have plenty of snacks,” said Claire Bissell, executive director of the Longview Arboretum. “We’ll have plenty of information about the arboretum, information about things that are coming up at the Arboretum over the next few months, and information about our pickleball tournament, which we will do again next year.”
Supporting a Local Nonprofit
Claire Bissell explained that the arboretum depends heavily on donations to remain open.
“The Arboretum is a fairly new nonprofit,” she said. “This is our sixth year in operation, and we need these fundraisers just to help us keep the beauty of the arboretum and help keep our doors open and take care of everything that we have there so that we can have it for the community.”
Community Involvement
While registration for players is now closed, the public is invited to attend the event and cheer for the competitors. Organizers hope the event will not only raise funds but also increase community awareness and involvement with the arboretum’s mission.
Looking Ahead
The Pickle in the Pines tournament is expected to become an annual event, providing both entertainment for residents and vital financial support for the arboretum. By combining sport with community spirit, organizers aim to keep the facility thriving for years to come.
