Boerne Unveils $16.5M Park Makeover—Pickleball Courts and Family Fun Set to Transform Northside

Boerne Pickleball Courts Community Park: The Boerne Parks and Recreation Department closed Northside Community Park on Friday to start construction on a new 40-acre, \$16.5 million park. The project, approved by voters in the 2022 bond program, will feature an all-abilities playscape, multi-use sports fields with lights, a dog park, pickleball courts, a splashpad, a food truck court, and other amenities.

Construction Kickoff

The groundbreaking ceremony is set for 9 a.m. on Sept. 3 at 524 Adler Road. Lissette Jimenez, city Parks and Recreation director, said, “With City Council authorization in August to proceed with Phase One, it is very exciting to be so close to kicking off construction.”

Mayor Frank Ritchie highlighted the park’s importance, saying, “This park represents our community’s commitment to creating spaces where everyone — families, athletes and neighbors of all ages — can come together. It’s an investment in our quality of life today and for generations to come.”

Project Details

Phase One will focus on site preparation, including grading and earthwork to shape the land for park features. The city estimates the park will be completed within 12 to 18 months.

The park follows other recent improvements to Boerne’s recreation system. Earlier in 2025, Boerne City Park added dedicated pickleball courts and an ADA-accessible play area funded by the Boerne Parks Association. In 2024, River Road Park received a \$2.5 million overhaul and environmental rehabilitation.

Community Impact

City officials say nearly three years of planning have led to this milestone. The new Northside Community Park will expand recreation options and provide a signature space for families, athletes, and the wider Boerne community.
