$10M Shreveport Pickleball Courts Face Fresh Delays Amid Heated Community Debate

Shreveport $10M Pickleball Court Delay: Plans to build new pickleball courts in Shreveport have been delayed once again. On Monday, August 25, the Caddo Parish Commission voted to send the $10 million project proposal back to the Economic Development Committee for further review.

Questions Over Cost and Support

Commissioner Ronald Cothran explained the reason for the delay.

“There were additional questions and some of the things we spoke of were getting as many constituents as possible and making them aware of what we’re going to do because again, when you’re spending that type of money, you want your constituents to be supportive of it,” (Commissioner Ronald Cothran).

The project has faced mixed reactions. Some residents say the cost is too high, while others welcome the investment in a sport that continues to grow in popularity.

Community Response

Local resident Randy Barlow supports the project.

“I think it’s great, I mean, I only seen one other pickleball court in Shreveport, so it’s new to Shreveport, and if they’re going to spend this kind of money for the public, then it’s a good thing because everywhere else I’ve been, even in New Orleans, pickleball is probably more popular than tennis,” (Randy Barlow).

Next Steps

The Caddo Parish Commission will hold another public meeting to hear community concerns before deciding whether to move forward with the project. The debate over the cost and value of the courts is expected to continue.
