Pickleball for a Cause: Rutland’s Build Better Friendships Tournament Returns to Rally Against Hunger

The Rotary Club of Rutland will host the 4th Annual Build Better Friendships Pickleball Tournament on September 6 and 7 at the Vermont Sport & Fitness Club, located at 40 Curtis Avenue in Rutland. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day and raise funds to fight food insecurity in the Rutland region.

Tournament Format

This year’s tournament will follow a round-robin format, ensuring every participant plays multiple matches. Unlike elimination events, no player is removed after a loss. Instead, all players in each pool face one another. Winners of each round robin group will receive prizes donated by sponsors, local businesses, and Rotarians.

Registration Information

Registration costs $30 per player, per event, and is open until Wednesday, September 3, or until the tournament reaches full capacity. Players are asked to provide their skill level during sign-up so that teams can be matched fairly.

Schedule of Play

The competition will feature two doubles formats across the weekend:

  • Same Partner Round Robin Doubles on Saturday, September 6

  • Switch Partner Round Robin Doubles on Sunday, September 7

Court assignments and detailed play times will be shared the week of the tournament.

Why It Matters

The Build Better Friendships Pickleball Tournament not only brings competitive play to Rutland but also serves a greater purpose. Proceeds will support the Rotary Club of Rutland’s grant program, which funds efforts to reduce food insecurity and supports charitable causes throughout the region. By combining sport with service, the event continues to build stronger community ties while promoting healthy competition.
