Shreveport Pickleball Court Proposal: Caddo Parish leaders heard public feedback at a meeting in the A.B. Palmer Community Center about a $10 million proposal to build 19 pickleball courts next to the YMCA in South Shreveport. The project, if approved, would be funded through revenue bonds and completed by 2027.
Community Voices Support and Concerns
Some residents see the project as a positive step for young people. Attendee Tanya Bowman said it would encourage kids to be more active.
“I think it’s worth it because it would give the kids and the young adults a chance to be more active because a lot of kids nowadays are so video game oriented. They don’t get out and experience new things,” (Tanya Bowman).
While some raised concerns about the cost, Bowman also acknowledged the price.
“I know it’s kind of costly, but at the end of the day, everything is costly now. So, we just need to get things done to get our youth and young adults more active,” (Tanya Bowman).
Officials Back the Project
District 10 Caddo Parish Commissioner Ronald Cothran voiced his support during the meeting.
“Pickleball is a great thing. It would be outstanding for us to be able to display this type of venture here in Shreveport. It’s a game that the parents, the students, and even grandparents can play together at one time,” (Ronald Cothran).
Supporters argue the project would create a new recreational hub and offer activities for all ages.
Looking Ahead
If approved, the 19 pickleball courts would be finished by 2027, making Shreveport a regional destination for the fast-growing sport. Leaders say the bonds used for funding would be repaid, leaving residents with a new space for recreation and community events.
